How to Restore a Single File or Folder using JetBackup 5
If you accidentally deleted a specific image from your WordPress media library, or if editing your functions.php file caused a fatal error, you do not need to restore your entire cPanel account. JetBackup 5 allows you to dive into your backups and restore just the specific file or folder you need.
Step 1: Open JetBackup Home Directory
- Log in to cPanel.
- Scroll to the Files section and click JetBackup 5.
- On the JetBackup dashboard, click the Home Directory icon (the blue folder icon).
You will now see a list of backup dates. This represents snapshots of your account's file structure at different points in time.
Step 2: Select the Backup Date
Find the date and time from before the file was deleted or corrupted. Click on that row to select it, then click the Change Files Selection button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: Locate the File or Folder
A file browser window will appear, looking very similar to the cPanel File Manager. This browser is showing you the files exactly as they existed on the date you chose.
- Navigate through the folders just like you would on your computer. (e.g. double-click
public_html, thenwp-content, thenthemes). - When you find the file or folder you want to restore, check the box next to its name.
- You can check multiple boxes if you need to restore several items.
- Once you have made your selection, click the Select Files button at the bottom right.
Step 4: Restore the Selection
You will be taken back to the main date selection screen. The Change Files Selection button will now show that items are selected (e.g., "1 File Selected").
Click the Restore button at the bottom of the screen. A confirmation panel will appear. Click Restore Selected Items to confirm.
Download Instead of Restoring?
If you don't want to overwrite the current file on the server, but rather just want to inspect the old version, you can click Download instead of Restore. JetBackup will compress the file into an archive and provide a download link in the "Downloads" section of the JetBackup menu.
Need Automated Offsite Protection?
Hostinap doesn't just store backups locally. All JetBackup snapshots are securely transmitted to remote storage clusters, ensuring your data survives even catastrophic hardware failures.
