How to Restore a MySQL Database with JetBackup 5

If a buggy plugin corrupted your WordPress database, or you accidentally deleted hundreds of products from your WooCommerce store, restoring your website files will not help you. You need to restore the MySQL Database. Here is how to do it using JetBackup 5 on your Hostinap account.

Step 1: Identify Your Database Name

Before restoring, make sure you know which database powers your website. If you only have one WordPress install, this is easy. If you have several:

  1. In cPanel File Manager, open the wp-config.php file for the broken website.
  2. Look for the line defining DB_NAME. This is the database you need to restore (e.g., username_wp123).

Step 2: Open JetBackup Databases Tool

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Scroll down to the Files section and click JetBackup 5.
  3. On the JetBackup dashboard, click the Databases icon (it looks like a stack of server disks).

Step 3: Select the Database and Date

You will see a list of your databases, but each database will appear multiple times representing different backup dates. JetBackup groups them by Database Name.

  1. Find the row for your correct database name that corresponds to a date before the issue occurred.
  2. Click on that row to select it.
  3. Click the Restore button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: Confirm and Monitor

A confirmation panel will appear. Click Restore Selected Items. The database will now be placed in the restore queue.

You can check the progress by clicking the Queue icon in the JetBackup menu. Database restores usually complete in less than 5 minutes, though very large WooCommerce databases may take longer. Once it shows "Completed", refresh your website to verify the fix.

Important Warning About Database Restores

When you restore a database, it completely overwrites the current live database. This means any new content created since the backup date โ€” new blog posts, new user registrations, or new ecommerce orders โ€” will be permanently erased. If you have critical new data, you should click Download instead of Restore, import it locally into phpMyAdmin, and manually extract the data you need.

Ecommerce Stores Need 12-Hour Backups

Losing 24 hours of orders because you had to restore yesterday's backup is painful. Upgrade to Business Hosting to get 12-hour JetBackup retention and minimize data loss.
