How to Restore Your Website with JetBackup 5 in cPanel
Accidentally deleted a crucial file, ran a bad WordPress update, or lost an important email? Mistakes happen, but with JetBackup 5, data loss doesn't have to be permanent. Here is a complete guide to finding and restoring your automated backups directly from cPanel on our Web Hosting and Business Hosting plans.
What is JetBackup 5?
JetBackup 5 is the premier backup solution for cPanel servers. Unlike older, clunky backup tools, JetBackup takes incremental snapshots of your entire hosting account (files, databases, emails, DNS zones, and cron jobs) and stores them securely on remote offsite storage.
On Hostinap Shared Hosting and Business Hosting, we automatically generate daily backups and retain them so you always have a safe restore point available at a moment's notice.
How to Restore Your Entire Account
If your website has been completely compromised or a major CMS update failed, restoring the entire account is the fastest fix.
- Log in to your cPanel dashboard.
- Scroll down to the Files section and click on JetBackup 5.
- Click on Full Backups (or just click the main Dashboard icon).
- You will see a list of dates representing your available backup snapshots. Select the date from before your site broke.
- Click the Restore button at the bottom of the screen.
- Review the confirmation prompt and check the box to agree to the restoration terms. Click Restore Selected Items.
JetBackup will queue the restoration. You can monitor the progress by clicking on the Queue icon in the JetBackup menu. Depending on your account size, a full restore can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
How to Restore Specific Files or Folders
If you only deleted one image or messed up your wp-config.php file, you don't need to overwrite your whole account.
- Inside JetBackup 5, click on Home Directory.
- Select your desired backup date and click Change Files Selection.
- A file manager window will pop up. Navigate to the folder (e.g.,
public_html) and check the box next to the specific files or folders you want to recover. - Click Select Files at the bottom.
- Click Restore. JetBackup will overwrite only those specific files, leaving everything else untouched.
How to Restore a Single Database
Database restorations are incredibly common, especially when a WooCommerce update goes wrong or a plugin corrupts your tables.
- In JetBackup 5, click on Databases.
- Select the backup date you wish to revert to.
- Check the box next to the specific database (e.g.,
youruser_wpdb). - Click Restore. Your database will be rolled back to the exact state it was in on that date.
Can I Download Backups to My PC?
Absolutely. If you want to keep a local copy of your backup before making a big change, you can generate a download instead of a restore.
Simply follow any of the steps above, but instead of clicking Restore, click Download. JetBackup will compress the selected data into an archive, which will become available for download in the Downloads section of the JetBackup interface once processing is complete.
